Around this time of year, we see a last rush of patients before January  because they realize they still have extended health benefits or health spending account dollars to use up.  For most companies, these benefits and health accounts are not carried over to the next calendar year.  This CBC article states that the most used benefit is dental (up to 80% claim it) and at a distant second place is vision care (up to 50% claim it).

A common misunderstanding is that only those who think they need glasses or contact lenses should use their vision care benefits.  Everyone is recommended to have a routine exam every 1-2 years to ensure optimal eye health and vision.  Did you know that you can have an eye disease even with 20/20 vision?

Don’t let those health benefits go to waste, and make time for yourself during the holiday season!
