I recently heard that 60{4422c3e9d6d956ffe17c4a9703f8867adf328a271a08c00de098d82d34d0cfb5} of New Year’s resolutions are health related. If you haven’t made any resolutions for 2014 yet, here are 5 goals you can set that will promote good eye health:
1. What you eat affects your eye health. Incorporate foods that are high in anti-oxidants and omega-3 fatty acids to decrease your chances of getting eye diseases, such as age-related macular degeneration.
2. Quit smoking! We all hear about the effects of smoking on your lungs and the rest of your body… but did you know you are 4x more likely to go blind in old age if you smoke?!?
3. Make UV protection a priority everyday. Ensure both your sunglasses and regular eyewear have UV protection and most importantly, make it a point to use it daily.
4. Drink more water. This helps with overall dehydration which can affect dry eye symptoms such as redness, scratchiness, and tearing.
5. Keep up with your routine eye exams. If you have not had your eyes checked in 1 or 2 years, it’s probably time. Preventative healthcare and early detection will keep you seeing clearly. Pick up the phone call your optometrist today!
