Meibography: How does it help diagnose dry eye disease?

Advanced diagnostic testing for dry eye disease

Meibography is a diagnostic tool we have at Avenue Eyecare to help us determine the root cause of your dry eye disease.  It images the health and structure of the meibomian glands in the lids.  These glands are responsible for producing the oil layer in our tears.  Meibomian gland dysfunction is the most common cause of an unstable tear film leading to dry eye disease.  It’s a quick, easy, non-invasive, and comfortable measurement that we perform on all of our dry eye management program patients.

In the above meibography image, the meibomian glands are the lighter areas and the space between the glands are the darker areas.  Abnormal glands can look widened or shortened.  If your glands are abnormal, there are way to enhance their function.  Book your appointment with us to find out more!
