Born and raised in Vancouver, Dr. Sherman Tung began his undergraduate Microbiology and Immunology program at the University of British Columbia. In 2002, Dr. Tung was accepted into the Doctor of Optometry Program at the Illinois College of Optometry. In 2006, Dr. Tung graduated from Illinois College of Optometry with Cum Laude Honours; he was also a part of the Tomb & Key Honours and Beta Sigma Kappa Optometric Honours Fraternities.
After he graduated from ICO, he was accepted into a prestigious residency program at Illinois Eye Institute in Ocular Disease/Primary Care. He had the unique opportunity to work with the world-renowned ophthalmologists from the University Of Chicago. After his residency, he continued to excel by obtaining his fellowship at the American Academy of Optometry; approximately only 150 of the 7500 Optometrists in Canada have this special distinction. Dr. Tung is also involved with BC Association of Optometrists. He is now a Past President of the BC Association of Optometrists.
In 2019, he was awarded the BC Optometrist of the Year. It is the highest award given to an optometrist that has demonstrated not only contributions to his profession, but also service on behalf of the visual welfare of the public and service to the community at large. He was also awarded as the top 3 optometrist in Vancouver in 2017 and 2018 on ThreeBestRated.ca
Dr. Tung is a certified orthokeratology doctor and is a member of the American Academy of Orthokeratology and Myopia Control (AAOMC). He has managed over hundred of cases. He has extensive experience and is committed to the highest standard of care in myopia management.
In his spare time, he spends as much time with his two beautiful twin girls. He also is passionate about Ultimate Frisbee.
Dr. Tung can speak English and Cantonese fluently.
