Dr. Ying Zhao moved from Shanghai to Vancouver at an early age, where she grew up to appreciate the beauty and diversity of this city. She obtained her Bachelor of Science in Cell Systems Biology from University of Toronto. Passionate about combining technology with healthcare, she pursued her Doctor of Optometry from University of California Berkeley School of Optometry.
Dr. Zhao has worked in various clinical settings to gain comprehensive optometry skills. As an intern at Berkeley’s Meredith Morgan Eye Center, she rotated through low vision, binocular vision, and contact lens clinics. In her fourth year of optometry school, she worked with renowned optometrists at San Francisco Veterans Affairs and Palo Alto Veterans Affairs with a strong focus on ocular disease. Upon graduation, she entered the retail industry as the Managing Optometrist at Eyexam of California. In addition to providing personalized care, she participated in programs that support vision screenings for kids and low-income populations.
In her spare time, you can find Dr. Zhao going to hot yoga classes, trying out the newest restaurants in town, or reading a book in a coffee shop. She speaks fluent English and Mandarin Chinese.
