Summer is officially here and it’s time to look for a new pair of sunglasses. Are the expensive brands the same as the cheaper drugstore ones? Is one tint better for you than another?
Here are 5 considerations to keep in mind when shopping for your new shades:
1. Think twice before buying cheap knock-offs from street vendors because they may not be selling sunglasses with any UV protection at all. Their goods are not regulated like those sold in established stores and distributors. Look for 100{4422c3e9d6d956ffe17c4a9703f8867adf328a271a08c00de098d82d34d0cfb5} UVA/UVB labels.
2. Check the lens quality also referred to as the “optics”. Look at something square or rectangular through the sunglasses and move it slowly vertically and horizontally. If the lines stay straight, the lens quality is good because it does not create a lot of distortion.
3. Polarized lenses cut the glare off of pavement, water, cars, etc.. giving you better visual comfort.
4. Lens colour has no bearing on UV protection but causes differences in colour perception. Choose darker lenses for bright conditions and medium tints for everyday wear.
5. Choose a frame that has good coverage from the side and the top to protect your eyes from UV rays coming from all angles.
Remember there’s much more to shopping for sunglasses than finding something that looks trendy…Happy Shopping!
